History

Cranston Horsburgh and his family established Four Seasons Foods in 1972. Their idea was to build a business that would supply Lakeland Hotels with the catering products that they required throughout the year. So Four Seasons was formed.

Operating from a small 'corner shop' site and with pilot warehouses throughout the town (a loft here, a garage there) the order assemblers could be seen wheeling hand carts around the town correlating their orders.

Business grew and in 1981 a retail unit was opened in the Herries Thwaite Shopping Centre. The wholesale business had now secured the purchase of the filling station and buildings adjacent to the retail shop.

Four Seasons continued to thrive, Cranston retired from the business and his two sons, took the reins to guide the business through the last decade of the 20th Century. In 1992 it was a relief to move from the antiquated and bulging Heads Road store into a newly constructed 15,000 sq. ft purpose-built food handling warehouse in the village of Threlkeld. Andrew and his wife Clare took control of the business in April 2003.

Four Seasons continued to grow due to the discerning clientele being supplied. The finest Hotels, Restaurants, Guest Houses, Activity Centres, Retail Outlets and Food Manufacturers and many more are still being serviced by the company started by Cranston Horsburgh back in 1972.

Having developed into the most innovative and active independant wholesale supplier in Cumbria, Four Seasons Foods continues to set the standards.
